The switch acts as a means to contact the other devices that are switches and routers. (Do I need a telnet or virtual terminal or just a hostname/ip with a secret-password to access those other devices through the switch?)
Firstly one of those devices is a Cisco 2514 Router...it has no ethernet ports(just serial ); so that means I cannot connect the Ethernet 2950 switch to it ...how can I do it??? Do I need an ethernet to SERIAL adaptor/cable..whats it called? Where do I get them? I think its a SCSI type serial port.
Secondly, I have a 1841 Cisco Router that I configured...but after briefly turning it off then on again I received the following ERRORS on the Hyperterminal Screen!!! :-
%Error opening tftp://255.255.255.25/network-config (Timed out)
*Nov 19 17:56:07.053: %SYS-4-CONFIG_RESOLVE_FAILURE: System config parse from (tftp://255.255.255.255/network-config) failed

What do I do? What happened?
Thirdly I want to get a POWER SUPPLY for an old 1900 cisco switch; where do I get these from?? Will electronic firms have them ready built? What are their web-searchable SPECIFICATIONS?
Thanks

Hi,
%Error opening tftp://255.255.255.25/network-config (Timed out)
*Nov 19 17:56:07.053: %SYS-4-CONFIG_RESOLVE_FAILURE: System config parse from (tftp://255.255.255.255/network-config) failed
- This can be disabled by configuring " no service config" and save the same in your startup config.

Thanks. The main hurdle I have now is that the devices(routers & switches) connected to the CONSOLE SWITCH 2950 are sometimes giving a line protocol down error when I SHOW INTERFACE....why is that? How do I get round this one? I assumed it was a problem of not setting up the correct ip address scheme ...ie giving another device the same ip address...but I then changed them to individual IP addresses....same problem of line protocol down... I dont think its NO SHUTDOWN in ip address configuration. I dont think I need clocking on ethernet connections.
Could it be the type of ethernet I have to choose eg// 10 BASEX, 100BASEX etc?
thanks

Hi aqusingh7,
See reply below:
1. The router come with 2 Ethernet AUI ports, but is the serial port you need to puchase transceivers adapter to convert Serial to RJ45 connector. Kindly check with your local reseller.
2. To resolve this issue disable the autoloading of configuration files. Simple execute command 'no service config'
3. Check with your local reseller.

Tan
