Hi,
If the hosts are connected to only one of the switches, there is no way to upgrade and not to have down time. The 6509 takes about 10 minutes to reboot. So, you will have down time during that window. The best way is to have a maintenance window and do it during off hours.

Hi!
This is possible. Please refer to the following steps:
- Copy IOS image to each supervisor bootdisk. (Active supervisor and the standby one).
- Now point the boot variable of both supervisors to the new IOS image.
- Redundancy reload the standby supervisor.
- When the standby comes back reload the active supervisor.
There should be a brief downtime, so it is always recommended to do it in a maintenance window.
If you need a more detailed instructions please let me know.
Hope it helps, best regards!
