I have (2)6513 Switches that I need to upgrade the IOS. Both have dual SUPs. I am looking for a step by step procedure to make sure that the upgrade goes successfull. Is it pretty much same the way we upgrade lower end routers with the following procedure?

connect pc to the network:

copy tftp flash:

IP address of the TFTP server

source file

destination file.

Kindly let me know.

Thanks

1. Monolithic or modular IOS?

2. It isn't called "flash:" but sup-bootflash:

It is modular IOS. The Sup Card is WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE:

Hw: 3.2

FW: 6.1(4)

SW: 12.1(19)E1

This is pretty old, and I need to upgrade the IOS. The feature set that the new IOS should support the following:

ISL and 802.1q trunks,

VTP, snmp,RMON

OSPF, and spanning tree.

QOS for Voice over IP.

AES Encryption

What IOS would be stable for the above SUP Card?

Since Each 6513 chassis has (2) SUP Card, I will need to uprade IOS on both SUP card per chassis. We are also installing Compact Flash Card for each SUP Module.

Should we upgrade the IOS in a built-in Flash or Compact Flash.

I will be suing Solar Wind TFTP.

Abbas
