USB not recognised

hi all,

getting this error when i insert a USB flash drive in a cisco switch 

dir usb1:
usb is either not present or not formatted or not mounted

ive tried FAT and FAT32, only tried one make tho

What is the brand and capacity of the flash drive? I've seen cases where drives larger than 32GB don't work.

In other instances, only Kingston models worked.

Try using a different flash drive.

As @aleabrahao correctly notes, Cisco devices can be sensitive to USB flash size and/or brand (they usually work fine with Cisco flash sticks).

Another issue you can run into, especially with much older Cisco devices, their ROMMON code may need updating.

Hi @robertkwild ,

what model of switch and what IOS are you using. Older models of switches have tighter restrictions. Newer switches like the Catalyst 9200/9300 running IOS XE can cope with much larger USB capacities like 32 or 64 GB.
