Hello,
I am planning to replace my 2811 router in my home with a used 2911 router, as recently i upgraded my internet connection from adsl to vdsl 50mb download/5mb upload. Trying speedtest with access list applied in out interface dialer0 with router 2811 gave me 20mb max download. After i removed all acl i got 45mb as it should be. So i thought maybe to upgrade the router to 2911. I found in ebay a lot of these routers. I would like to have all licenses installed as i already use VPN and VOIP in my house. As i am not familiar with 2900 series i would like to ask a few questions.
1. I have already installed a VIC2-2FXO, VIC3-2FXS and PVDM2-8 in my 2811. Are these compatible with 2911 ?. I read that PVDM2-8 with an adapter could be installed in 2911. The VIC2-2FXO, VIC3-2FXS are compatible ?
2. If i would like to upgrade the IOS of the 2911 router, what happens to licenses already installed?
Should i have to reinstall all licenses again ? and how that would it be possible ?
3. I read that CUCME license is valid for 12 years. That means that the router would loose VOIP capabilities after that time reached out ?
thank you,
Apostolis.

Hello,
#1 ANS - Yes the VIC2-2FXO, VIC3-2FXS and PVDM2-8 should be compatible with the 2911. Reference the link below:
#2 ANS - Upgrading the router should not affect the licenses.
#3 ANS - I believe that it used to be, but is no longer the case. Please reference a previous forum discussion:
Hope this is of some help.

I would add a couple of comments about upgrading and about licensing.
- getting a newer image from Cisco to upgrade the 29XX requires an active maintenance contract. Unless you plan to put the router under maintenance you should look carefully at the router you plan to purchase and what version of code it is running.
- we do not know what licenses you have on your existing router and what you would need on the new router. in general licenses on IOS routers are not transferable. You should check what licenses are on your current router and check the router that you plan to purchase to verify that the new router has equivalent licenses.
