username and password is not authenticating over ssh

Hi Team,

I'm looking for some help, please..

I've deployed a new switch (cisco WS-C3850-48T) with minimal configuration, like an ip address on mgmt interface and vty with trasport input/output as ssh only. I've create a local login say cisco/cisco and enable is cisco.

I'm able to ping the device over the mgmt path and i could a login prompt on putty but it kicks out the session saying Authentication Failure.

Please advise.

Regards

Bhopendra

Hi Paul,

Hope you are doing well. With the suggested configuration I was able to make the successfully ssh connection to the new switch.

However post uploaded the basic configuration, we have come across with a distinct issue, the response time to the ssh request is very slow, the speed is slow as it is taking more than 30 mins to upload 20 lines configuration.

Investigation:

  • There are no errors on interfaces on local and remote devices, nor ping packet drop between the new switch and it uplink switch distribution switch.
  • There is no STP loops,
  • The CPU and Memory Utilization is normal.

Please suggest what could be the issue.

Hello

How are you connecting -  ip or dns name?
Is this from a ssh client on a pc or between to networking devices?
If between networking devices are they all running the same ssh version?
Can you debug ssh to see what is going on?  -  debug ip ssh
Is the same latency experienced when using telnet?
Are you using any Radius or Tacacs authentication/authorisation?
