Hello,
I have been tasked to design a network for an office. I am coming up with several options to present to the CTO on how this can be accomplished. One of the options I was asked to design was using the available equipment they have in production and in their storage room. I comprised a list of all the equipment in production and storage that were not EOL and came up with a design using older equipment to be compared with the new items that could be purchased.
I am wondering if there were any reasons why I should avoid using the Nexus 9372 switches in this design. The devices have a EOL date and are no longer being sold but they are still under support until 2023. I was thinking of using the 9372tx for our distribution layer where all of our VMware infrastructure and firewalls will connect, while using the 9372px could be used as a WAN aggregation switch where all of our ISP connections would connect as well as the external interfaces of devices like the firewalls would connect. The 9372px could run BGP so maybe it could be used as a border router as well.
I know that this is probably not ideal but the question is are there any caveats to using these devices as my distribution and wan aggregation/border router switches? I was told that if they decided to go with this option they would look to purchase replacements the following year well before the end of support date. I guess some of my concerns using them would be the following:
- running BGP on the 9372px
- Stackwise fo Nexus switches?
- using the QSFP for cross connects
