Currently we have two WS-C3850-24P work as our core switches and connected with 6 other WS-C2960X-48FPS-L across our school LAN.
I recently got 4 used WS-C3750-48PS-S switches and thought I could use them as backup in case the 2960X crashes. The question is if this is workable? If yes, how to configure from the CLI? I already reset the 3750 to factory default. Any command I need to run to clear anything else? Anything else that I need to be aware of?
Or simply put, can I make the 3750 work as a 2960x? and how?
I am not a pro on Cisco switches so forgive me if that sounds to be a stupid question. Thanks much!

Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image

* 1 52 WS-C3750-48P 12.2(50)SE3 C3750-IPBASEK9-M

Hit switch(config)#no switch 7 provision then upgrade your code to release 12.2.55-SE11 "c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE11.bin". Everything should be good.

Sure. I will give it a try. Thanks so much for being with me and giving all the instructions. I will update you when I am done updating the image.

The switch should work stand-alone as member seven, but if the no switch 7 provision doesn't do the trick, you might also try switch 7 renumber 1.

Yes, I renumber it to 1, update the image to the latest which is c3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-55.SE11.bin.
I now have the following,
Switch#show switch
Switch/Stack Mac Address : 0026.0ae9.ca80
H/W Current
Switch# Role Mac Address Priority Version State
----------------------------------------------------------
*1 Master 0026.0ae9.ca80 1 0 Ready
And show version gives the following,
Switch Ports Model SW Version SW Image
------ ----- ----- ---------- ----------
* 1 52 WS-C3750-48P 12.2(55)SE11 C3750-IPBASEK9-M
So I believe that's it. What I am going to do next is to set up some basic configuration and then plug to the LAN to see how it goes. Thanks much!

I also found this post on this forum,

It seems there is no way to get rid of the stack configuration.
