vlan query

Hi all,

I have created a vlan 10 in addition to the default vlan 1 in a cisco 2950 switch.

This cisco switch is then connected to a 3com switch which has only 1 default vlan.

There is no vlan trunking configured on both switches.

However the pc connected to the 3com switch could not communicate with the pc connected in vlan 10 in my cisco 2950 even though both PCs are configured with ip on the same subnet.

But if the pc is connected to a port belonging to vlan1 on cisco2950, the communication works fine between the 2 PCs.

Hence i suspect the 3com switch is working on vlan id 1.

However when 1 use another cisco switch 3500 series(also configured with vlan 10 in additon to default vlan 1) in place of the 2950 switch, pc connected to vlan 10 could communicate with the pc in 3com switch. Why is this so? There are no special config on both the cisco switches, just the normal vlan config of assigning ports to vlan. Pls advise. Thks in advance.

The port that is connected to the 3com would need to be in the same vlan you coul just try to set that port

Switch port access vlan 10 then see if it works
