I have a backup that is not a cisco device and my default gateway is a Cisco layer 3 switch. The actual router with the Primary circuit on is connected to the same switch. I have VRRP setup between the Primary router and the backup device. however it is not working. What happens is the pc's go to the layer 3 switch and it doesn't get any further. The cisco layer 3 switch has a gateway of last resort to the primary router, and I have a secondary gateway of last resort with a metric of 200 going to the backup. i thought it would pick up the route and send it to the backup router. it did not. Do I need to setup vrrp on the layer 3 switch between it and the backup? If I do where do I put the VRRP under the interface vlan?

If you are using VRRP on the routers then your L3 switch does not need two default routes.
Just use the VRRP VIP as the next hop IP for the default route on the switch then if the primary router fails the backup router takes control of the VIP.
This is all invisible to the L3 switch ie. it just sends traffic to the next hop IP.
