VTP version change to v1

Small site with half a dozen 12.2 IOS switches 3550, 2960, 4506. All are running VTP version 2 with the 4506 as the server. When adding a new 2960 switch with a blank revision number, configured to use v2, the version changes to v1 when it is added as a client. I've rechecked to ensure all other switches are running v2, verified that I'm using the same domain name and password, but can't determine why the version is changing. Any ideas?

Hi Peter,

VTP ver2 is disabled by default on V2 capable switches. It can be configured in Server or transparent mode. However, as you change it to client, it actually configures itself as per the updates from VTP server. Thus, ensure that your trunks are fine with this switch.

If still unresolved, please update with "sh vtp status" and "sh int trunk".
