Want to start getting network up and running but having IOS issues

first off i'm a newb so take it easy on me

I just got a 1720 + wic 1-enet online along with a 2924

i want to hook my cable modem up to the 1720 via wic 1-enet then the FA on that goes to the 2924 then to the rest of the computers

Then get VLAN's made and intervlan done by the 1720.

NOW my problem is i cannot find a IOS verison that will

1.) support the WIC 1-enet

2.) after getting the WIC 1-enet to work i cannot set the encapslation ex. ISL, dot1q it see's the encapslation command but when you do encapslation ? it shows no sub commands and type it in manually doesnt work either

SO if there is any Cisco God out there that can lend me a hand i could really use the help this hardware should push me over the top so i can get my CCNA

Hello Mike,

the 1720 does not support inter-Vlan routing or 802.1Q trunking, you need the 1721 to do this.

Additional to that; for 802.1Q trunking, you will need the IP plus feature set.
