Hi buddies,

What does switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-24ts-1u mean? Is it a default command in a 3750 switch?

If i do no switch 1, what would occure for switch?

you know, when I google searched for how to stack two 3750 switches, I found if you only connect stack cable of switches in a right way, they will become stack? Is it correct?

Yes.

If there is only one switch in a stack then you will NOT be allowed to remove this command.

Exactly, what are you trying to accomplish?

Hi

Thanks for your response,

For example there are tow Cisco switches, for stacking these switches, it's enough to connect stack cable between tow switches, and power on them? or after powering on switches you need to do special configuration.

And at the other scenario if I want to add a new switch to this stacked switches, there is any way we don't need to power off another switches and add the switch to stacked mode?

ans : Yes thats enough, provided  there are some condition such as compatible switches and IOS version match etc.

Ans: You dont need to power down the existing switches to add  a new switch to the stack. Just connect the new switch to the stack using stack cables and power it on (ensure you power it on only after connecting the stack cables.)

Hope this helps,

Madhu.

You can keep the existing switch powered on, just rack the device, plug in the stacking cables, power on the new switch. once its powered on type "show switch", it will show you the state of the switch in the stack, whether it be ready or version mismatch, or any other states.

IF it shows version mismatch, that means you should update your IOS to a compatible version of the current switch in order to be able to use the new switch.

you can also reload separate switches in the stack without restarting the whole stack by issuing 'reload slot #' and it will reload that single switch.

'switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-24ts-1u' means your first switch is a 24 port 3750 switch.

nothing will happen if you type 'no switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-24ts-1u' if it is a stand alone switch. If it is in a stack of multiple switches then it will remove all of your interfaces for that switch in your stack and make them unusable unless you have that in there.

When you stack switches, the stacking cables have to be arranged in a way that every switch is looped within the stack, which means NO DEAD ENDS, this will cause redundancy for all the switches in the stack if one decides to die on you. All of your switches must have the same IOS to be considered in the stack configuration. You can either manually enter the next type of switch into your running config or restart the entire stack to add it into the configuration file and able to be used.

Typical command to show if your switch is operational :

'show switch'

This command will show you the switches in the stack, even if they're not operational and what the status is to further troubleshooting. Most of the time you'll just receive a mismatch compatibility which means you need to update the IOS.
