I know that the description is IP Base to IP Services factory IOS Upgrade, but what exactly does that mean? I've heard different things, some people say it's to enable Layer 3 functionallity, and others say it's only needed if you want to use the OSPF protocol. We are going to be purchasing the 3750X switches in the near future and they will be running BGP. Will we need to add that upgrade to the IOS?
Thanks!!!

Hi Karin,
By default, the 3750x switches come with IP base image. If you are planning to run BGP then you need IP services image. The way you upgrade is to buy the IP services licence key and apply it to the switch. Basically, you enable the IP services image with a licence key and you don't need to download a new image at all.

The C3750x-48IOS-S-E is actually a upgrade done at the factory from ip base license to ip services license.
So when you get the switches you do not have to do the license key upgrade yourself.
If you are to order many switches and already know that you will be using ip services, then thats the way to go.
good luck

OSPFv1 is supported on the new 12.2(55)SE IOS with IP Base feature set.
