Have a great day
I have a WS-C6509-E that uses two WS-SUP720-3B engines. The engine in module 5 failed. We planned to replace this engine, so we chose a time to replace it. After replacing the engine, we installed the new module 5 as the main engine and started it. All our original configurations were lost. What caused this? Is it because module 5, the main engine, synchronized the configuration of the backup engine module 6, and then deleted all the configurations? Is this mechanism a bit stupid? I want to know what is the reason for the configuration loss? Please see the specific model below.

The logs would possibly say that the Supervisor Engine in slot 5 is running a different IOS version to the current active one so the system has refuses to let that line card boot. The replacement Supervisor Card in slot 5 is probably in ROMMON.

Hi Leo Laohoo
However, this is not the case. After the device was shut down and replaced, it was started up. It synchronized the engine version of module 6 to the same as module 5. The newly replaced module 5 became the main engine, and all the configurations on module 6 were lost. I think this mechanism is not normal. Why choose module 5 with empty configuration as the main engine and delete the configuration of module 6 synchronously? In addition to this, I have no other ideas about the disappearance of this configuration.

Post the logs.

I agree with @Leo Laohoo that module5 has not yet fully booted and synced with the other module
or you did not complete the replacement procedure
in this process you must understand the difference between active/standby and master/slave
if your out of luck you may have encountered a dual-active configuration, where both sups think the are the active sup and no configuration is replicated
in your output module 6 is reported as the active sup, not the module in slot-5

Hi -
Did you hot swap the supervisor in slot 5, or did you shut down the whole switch to perform the change?
