need to replace supervisor engine WS-SUP720-3B with WS-SUP720-3BXL on 6509 chasis
Please let me know what is the best way to do it.

Should not be an issue. Just make sure you have a good copy of the config before replacing the sup.

refer the below doc for detailed steps to replcae the sup module and as stated by reza make sure you have a good copy of the existing configuration:
