Changing TCS External Storage Settings

Is there a way to edit the TCS database to change the external storage settings so that one might not have to run the TCS Wizard and wait for it to copy/move all the files?  This would be considered that we do all the coping/moving ourselves, prior to changing the storage settings within the database, and then simply bring the TCS services back online after we were done.  A quick workaround to waiting on the TCS Wizard and to save time, since we have several TBs of data.

Thanks, Patrick

Hi Patrick

Sounds a little dodgy to me. The TCS database can be a nightmare and we would never recommend any changes directly in the TCS database. It can make things turn bad and the plan for saving a few hours may turn into days of recovery...

I don't know of any supported alternate ways of doing this either. I would just stick to the wizard in order to do this. But this is just me, maybe someone else here has a special trick I have not heard of.

Thanks Mangus - I agree changing it in the database is highly not advisable and comes with ALOT of risk.  We're not opposed to using the TCS Wizard again, it's just the last time we did this which was earlier this year it took a solid two days to move all the files.  Hense the questions of if there is a quicker way to make this possible.

Ok

If I had a trick I would have shared it with you

No worries!  Something that came to mind, if we move the .ogg raw files ourselves in the background to what the new directory would be, will the TCS Wizard find those files in the new directory and bybass needing to move them cutting down on the amount of time the TCS is down for maintenance due to the migration?  It did this for our media files as it found them from when we migrated them ourselves due to the amount, but forgot all about the .ogg raw files.  Since the raw files are only used or accessed during creation of new or changed outputs of a recording, than we could move them while having an understanding that we need to not create new outputs for whatever time period until the entire process is complete (copy/move and TCS Wizard migration).

We're also limited on space too, so the issue is not just the amount of time alone.
