Hello I know this question maybe asked a many times over But i need to ask this. Sense I'm still new to the whole VOIP and phone stuff that a friend of mine gave me a Cisco-9971. I know for a fact it does support sip and I'm using Freepbx for my pbx setup. So the problem I'm having is i do not know how to set it up or know what program i need to set it up with. Sense this phone doesn't have a Web GUI on it like my SPA Cisco adapter has i have no clue how to set up this phone can someone please help me out? Thank you

I was able to get a 9971 to associate to a FreePBX (Raspberry Pi) until I had to return the phone to the owner.
The first thing to do is to enable DHCP Option 150.
A sample of the SEPmacaddress.cnf.xml file (for 9971) can be found HERE (scroll down to the near-bottom of the page).

Hello sorry let me try to ask as best as i can in here on my phone. I have no clue what I'm doing. I know where is some program i need to upload a XML file to the phone and that is all i know. So i looked around and they said i need a program called TFTP32 so i went and found it installed it no on But don't know how to configure it to send to the phone the XML file. On the other hand i do not know which XML file is needed or the steps to install the XML file to the phone is where I'm at.
Sorry for for bother.

Watch this video on how to use DHCP Option 150.
Another avenue is to ask the friend who provided the phone for assistance.

Sorry i guess i need a Tftp server of some kind.
If you're running Asterisk/FreePBX, chances are it's on a Linux OS. Enable TFTP & DHCP service on the box would be good.

I Googled "DHCP Option 150 Linux" and some of the hits are:
Configure TFTP Option 66 and Option 150 with dhcpd; and
Option Code 150: DHCP Configuration for Cisco VOIP Phones
For TFTP, try THIS.

I'm not a Linux person. I asked a friend to help me configure the TFTP portion.
What application do i need to upload the XML file to the phone it's self?
DHCP Option 150 will tell the phone where the TFTP server is. After the phone boots up the phone will contact the TFTP server if the file SEPmacaddress.cnf.xml (where macaddress is the MAC address of the phone) is available. If it's available then the phone will download the file.
Take note the file contains XML value of the file version to use. My recommendation is to use that exact version as stated in the <loadinfo> tag.

Asterisk/FreePBX is the call manager.
