is there a way to create a global variable within a workflow via a task or accessing variables of past service requests in some way?

Yes here are the tasks…
https://communities.cisco.com/docs/DOC-72106

when i run the create task, i get the following error:
[Output: out1 = <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8' standalone='yes'?><cuicOperationResponse><errorMessage>No Mo exists for cloupia.ID.GlobalVariables</errorMessage><operationStatus>3</operationStatus></cuicOperationResponse>]
any ideas as to why?

Are you on UCSD 6.6?

yes

I added the custom tasks here
https://communities.cisco.com/docs/DOC-72106
for UCSD 6.6
I assume you created a variable first before you read one?

i tried executing the create workflow and that was the error that i got in the log of the service request (i'm using the workflows you've provided).
