Introduction:

This document will help the customer to understand and try out Update VMware vCenter use case in UCSD. The given workflow will work with both UCSD and UCSD Express.

This document will walk through the detailed steps, we need to follow to complete the Update VMware vCenter via UCSD.

Requirements:

  1. The required VMware vCenter Account should be added to UCSD.
  2. This task is supported only for venters of version 7 and above.

Sample workflow inputs:

Account: Choose the VMware Account which needs to be updated.

Current Version: This shows the current version of the VMware Account selected.

Update Version: Enter the proper Update Version that is one of the available updates for the selected VMware Account. (The latest version available for a vCenter will be fetched and given as output from the task Get Latest vCenter Version Available.

Execution Process:

After the user provided the required inputs, the execution of the workflow will make calls to different APIs provided by VMware. It prechecks the update for fetching the estimated time of update installation and any errors present with the installation. If any errors are present, they will be displayed in SR logs and the workflow fails. If no errors are present, it will start the staging and installation of the update. It will fetch the update status and shows the task in progress in SR logs. Once the update installation is finished, the workflow is completed successfully.

Users can check update installation progress in the VMware vCenter Server Management Console.

Note: This workflow only supports vCenter updates.

Troubleshooting:

  • While selecting Account, if we choose an account with version 7 then, the workflow will fail since this VMware API support is for venters of version 7 and above.
  • If there are any errors present while pre-checking the update, the workflow fails. In the SR logs, we can see the error details and the solution to resolve those errors.
