Hi,
How easy is it to change a Production Unity system from G711 to G729a?
If I change it, will the voice mail messages (wav files) be smaller when using the G729a codec?
Cheers,
Jeremy.

If you change from G711 to G729 storage, then the wav files will be significantly smaller - the Unity Design Guide (Table 3) shows about 480 KB for a 1 minute G711 message vs. about 60 KB for a 1 minute G729 message. Remember you will be losing some audio quality with this change. Also, if your phone calls are still going to be using G711, transcoding will be required. Transcoding can impact system performance, especially for systems where lots of transcoding is occurring. The Unity Design Guide Chapter 2 has some good information about codec and transcoding considerations:
This link will walk you through the necessary changes you need to make to convert your Unity server from using G711 to G729:

I need to check this, but the 7.0.4b TSP should support both g711 and g729. I believe installing this would be all that is needed. If I remember correctly, 7.0.3 TSP and later have this functionality.
