I recently (accidentally) left the TFTP server de-activated on a CUCM 6.1 cluster. The IP Phones were at the right level of firmware so didn't need the TFTP server to be up or downgraded, however with auto-reg enabled did register with CallManager. I thought IP Phone relied on TFTP for every thing including the down load of the config file. Can anyone please explain how these IP Phones registered with out TFTP activated

do you have a secondary TFTP? maybe they received the IP config via DHCP with a secondary TFTP that was running
Were the phones previously configured on the system??
what TFTP does the phone says it's looking at??

if this helps, please rate

Hi, Thanks for your reply
This was a test environment, I had one CUCM i.e. the Publisher (no back up CUCM and no back up TFTP) I accedently forgot to activate the TFTP service. The IP Phones registered without the TFTP service running.
Is it possible that the later versions on CUCM tried the TFTP address configured as option 150, and if TFTP is not available then asks the server if it is acting as a CUCM, then uses Skinny to get the config...... Just a thought.
