CUCM & Unity Patching

I have recently been given the responsibility of maintaining our VOIP network.  An upgrade was performed in which Call Manager was upgraded from Version 6.3 to 10.5. Unity was upgraded from Version 5.0 to 10.6.

Now that we are using a more recent version of the Cisco UCM & Cisco Unity on their virtual platforms. I have been assigned the task to put together a plan for keeping these applications patched and up to date with any bug fixes/security flaw patches that get released periodically.

So my question to the support community is:

1. Is there a document out there that discusses a recommended or standard for keeping these products up to date with patches.

2. I am looking for any feedback from the general VOIP administrator community as to how they handle patching these applications.

3. How often does Cisco release patches for these products?

4. Is it logical to plan a monthly or quarterly schedule to apply these patches similar to how Microsoft applies patches to it's O.S.'s
