Hi,

May I know whether can we just transfer the data and information directly from 4.x to 7.x unity?

What are the important stuffs to look out for when doing the migration?

Thanks

Robbie,

There are a couple ways you can do this depending on what data you intend on moving over. DiRT backup/restore will restore the entire database. However, DiRT will only backup and restore to the same version of Unity. Therefore, you'd have to DiRT backup your 4.x. On your new server, build it up to the same 4.x version, perform the DiRT restore, then proceed to upgrade to 7.x. See the following doc for all of the requirements and what data is saved/backed up:

http://www.ciscounitytools.com/HelpFiles/DiRT/index.html

The other option is that you can use the COBRAS tool, but there is certain data that is NOT saved in an export. Here is some information on what data is NOT saved by COBRAS: http://www.ciscounitytools.com/Applications/COBRAS/Help/COBRAS.htm#_Toc216789777

Hope this helps. If so, please rate.

Hi Brad,

Thanks for the advice. One more issue is that for the upgrade from 4.x to 7.x can we upgrade from 4.x or we need to upgrade to 5.x then to 7.x ?

Robbie,

Yes, you can upgrade from 4.x to 7.x, you'll just need to make sure you're licensed for the upgrade in 4.x first. The documentation for 7.x uses the 5.x docs.

Hi Brad,

Where I find information about what I need to buy if I want to upgrade a Cisco Unity 4.0.5 to 7.0?

Regards,

Jorge Huamán

Jorge,

I don't have any documentation that lists specifically what you need to purchase. But from a technology standpoint, you'll need to make sure you follow the upgrade guide that I posted and be sure you've purchased the proper upgrade license, the 7.x software and that you're running on a supported hardware configuration for 7.x which can be found here:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_data_sheets_list.html

Specific sales/purchasing questions should probably be directed toward your account team or reseller.

Hope that helps,

Brad

Hi Brad,

Is there any licensing issue we have to take note of when migrating from old unity server to the new one?

Yes, you'll need to first ensure you have the upgrade feature in your 4.x license. Then you'll have to contact Licensing to have the license re-hosted to the new server's MAC address.
