I have a Unity server 4.0(4) configured in voicemail only. I am encountering Exchange and Windows out-of-licence error messages.

I have selected per seat during the OS installation. Why are we encountering the above error messages ?
Is there anything not done correctly during the Unity software installation stage ?
Any solution to rectify the error message ?

Cisco pays Microsoft for all of the licensing so rest assured you aren't really in violation. You can disable the 'License Logging Service' if you don't want to see the messages moving forward. If you leave it one nothing bad will happen; they are benign.
We probably should be disabling this during installation or otherwise pointing folks in the right direction.
I take a look at this a later in the week and give you an update.
Thanks,
Keith

Keith,
We are experiencing the same messages on our Exchange server. It's good to know the messages are not serious (it would have been nice if they were informational or of warning type, and not of error kind), and can be turned off by disabling the "License Logging Service", but the question I have is whether doing this (disabling LLS) will affect any other component/application on the server? Is this the best/only solution to get rid of the messages?
Thanks,
Joseph

Yeah I didn't get around to researching this but disabling the service is 100% safe. At this time it really is the best way to deal with it.
Thanks,
Keith

I have opened a defect on this. The defect is CSCsa75116.
Moving forward we will instruct customers to disable the service on their Exchange server if they are using voice mail only.
The 4.0(5) release notes will reflect this, as well as the 4.0(6) installation guide and the next rev of the security guide.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Keith,
Disabling the License Logging Service on the Exchange server has taken care of the "Error-type" messages in the Event viewer on that server, but now we're getting "Warning-type" messages on the Unity servers every 30 minutes, indicating the following:
"Replication of license information failed because the License Logging Service on server \\
I'm sure disabling the same service on the Unity servers will take care of these messages as well, but I wanted to make sure we won't run into any licensing issues with Unity itself. Is it Ok to take this action?
Thank.
Joseph

Unity doesn't use it at all. It is only for used for Microsoft products as far as I am aware.
Oddly, it turns out Microsoft disables this service by default in Windows 2003. Also the 4.0(5) install will be updated telling users to disable it.
Thanks,
Keith
