Unity Connectors for exchange 2003 ver. 11.0.2

I am unable to install voice connectors on partner exchange 2003 server to unity 4.0.4sr1 box, I get the following error: "Error creating Gateway Object in Active Directory. If you have not run AdSchemaSetup for Voice Connector, please run that and run setup again". I have run the AdSchemaSetup from unity 4.0.4 cd successfully and still getting the error. We are using AMIS to connect to a CallExpress Voicemail system. The exchange server that we had the voice connectors on previously was removed from our domain completely and also the exchange2000 partner server to unity was replaced with new server and a fresh install of exchange 2003 and mailboxes were migrated over from the old 2000 server. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has any ideas.

Thanks

Hi -

You mentioned the Exchange server that previously hosted the voice connector was removed from the domain. Did you also deinstall the voice connector? If not, I suspect the AvExchangeIVC_ mailbox was not deleted from your Exchange environment. The install of the voice connector attempts to recreate this mailbox. Also make sure the Exchange server is NOT a cluster server. I copied the following steps from the voice connector release notes... Refer to steps 5 - 7, which you can check for in Exchange System Manager, even though you no longer have the original server operational. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/prod_release_note09186a0080227cf8.html

Step 1 Log on to the Exchange server on which the Voice Connector is installed.

Step 2 In the Windows Control Panel, in Add/Remove Programs, click Exchange 2000 Voice Connector.

Step 3 Follow the on-screen prompts to uninstall the Voice Connector.

Step 4 On the Windows Start menu, click Programs > Microsoft Exchange > System Manager.

Step 5 Expand Servers\\\Mailbox Store\Mailboxes for the server on which the Voice Connector was installed.

The mailbox for the Voice Connector is named "AvExchangeIVC_" or "Exchange 2000 Voice Connector ()."

Step 6 Right-click Mailboxes in the left pane and select Run Cleanup Agent.

Step 7 After the Cleanup Agent has run, right-click each Voice Connector mailbox marked with the red X icon and select Purge. Click Yes in the warning dialog box.

Step 8 Close the Exchange System Manager.

Sincerely,

Ginger

This is of some interest to me as well. We are about to upgrade from Unity 4.0(1) to 4.0(4) for Exchange 2003 support. We have had a very difficult time getting answers for our cluster questions. I see you mentioned making sure the new server was not Exchange cluster. Are there known issues? The most I've gooten from TAC was that it was supported. Then was basically told we have to ask Microsoft how Cisco's connecter works in Exchange cluster.

We are moving from Exchange 2000 to Exch2003 active/passive cluster and are trying to find out when and how the connecter is upgraded during the Unity upgrade. Or is it a separate install after the fact?

Any help would be appreciated.

I apologize if you have received inaccurate or confusing information in the past, but the Voice Connector for Exchange 2000/2003 is not supported on clustered servers. In general, Microsoft does not support connectors to foreign systems with Exchange clustering and the "Cisco Unity Voice Connector for Exchange" falls into that category. There is a tech note available on the subject at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_tech_note09186a00801115b1.shtml.

For your other question, the Voice Connector is not upgraded during a Unity upgrade. The Voice Connector uses a separate installation, since it is often not on the same server as Unity. To upgrade the Voice Connector, uninstall the current version using Add/Remove Programs and then install the new version from the Unity installation media. Further details are available in the "Upgrading and Uninstalling Networking Options" section of the appropriate Networking guide. See http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_installation_and_configuration_guides_list.html.

Thank you for your response. No, the previous voice connector was not uninstalled. I did not find "AvExchangeIVC_" or "Exchange 2000 Voice Connector ()." mailbox does not exist on our current exchange server.

Thank You
