Is it possible to build a failover system with Domino, either VM or UM - I suspect not but can't find any documentation to support that, is there any docs that will explain.

Not supported yet, but it's in EFT soon and will be included in the Unity 4.0(5) release -- which is supposed to be available in March or so.
