On Unity 5, when users try to dial Cisco Unity, they get message "the voicemail server is disconnected ". What can be possible causes ? Are Exchange services like IMAP4 & POP3 a must for Exchange to work fine?

Using the Microsoft Exchange System Manager, can you open the mailbox store? If not, can you see if the mailbox store is mounted.

Unity uses MAPI to connect to the Microsoft Exchange server. If you examine the application log event viewer on the Unity server, do you see any events which indicate the Unity server has lost connectivity with the Exchange server? Is Exchange isntalled on or off-box ?

Exchange is installed on the box. I do see the msg " The MAPI call 'OpenMsgStore' failed with the following error:
The attempt to log on to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer has failed.
The MAPI provider failed.
Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store
ID no: 8004011d-0512-00000000 "
What is the fix?

Thanks Thomas, the mailbox store was not mounted. Unity server reboot fixed the issue.
Have a nice evening.
Regards,
Ashok.
