I am going to install VM only unity(DNS server,AD,Exchange, Unity in one box). It's going to be its own domain. My question is how I can configure the DNS so that it goes to internet? I have production AD and DNS but different domain. How can I configure Unity to point to that DNS server? As u know since it's standalone unity the NIC is configured loopback 127.0.0.1 as DNS server pointing to itself. Can I change it to use production DNS address, will it impact Unity by doing this?
Thanks

The answer is forwarding.
In the ip properties of the ad svr, you would point it back to itself for dns.
Open DNS from Start, Programs, Administrative Tools.
Right-click on the server name, select Properties.
Select the Forwarders tab.
Click on Enable Forwarders and enter a dns ip address.
Sometimes, Enable Forwarders is grayed out. Under the server name, open Forward Lookup Zones and delete the . or otherwise known as root. Close DNS applet, and follow the steps outlined in above paragraph.
