Hi everyone!
I've been looking into new software for remote control of IP Phones. I've come across two solutions which seem mature enough: UnifiedFX and Variphy. I realize that Variphy has a few features that UnifiedFX doesn't deal with (such as auditing and cdr management) but I haven't found any reviews on the software from users which aren't in some way affiliated with the products.
I'd like to hear a network engineer's unbiased take on these products. Also, does anyone have any idea what the cost is for Variphy Enterprise/SMB? I can't make a comparison by price because they haven't posted it on their site.
Thanks!

Sure, the CDR functionality appears very reliable; it comprises two separate products:
- the CDR collector\ importer
- the reporting tool (Insight Manager)
We've installed both on an old Windows Server (a 2003 VM!!); they use separate Apache stacks and had no problems with IIS or anything like that. You basically point the CDR tool at your exported CDR data from CUCM (their documentation explains how to setup the billing services in CUCM) and imports the data into the Variphy DB, which can be MySQL or MS SQL; we're using the latter, no problems. It will then delete the original CUCM CDR data when it hits the retention period set in Variphy.
The Insight Reporter does quite a few things very well:
- loads of canned reports to show you who people have been calling. It basically interrogates all the call-specific data brought across in the CDR so you can be very specific about what you search for. There's a few "Top {n}" report too and I think you can add billing information too (haven't tested this).
- snapshot config changes in CUCM, so you can see what changes have been made to DN's, partitions, CCS's etc
- alerting, so it will automatically tell you if someone dialled international, emergency services etc.
- phone remote. You need to make a minor change in CUCM for this to work (can't recall exactly, but basically you need to tell CUCM that the phone can be remote controlled - again it's well documented in their own user guide). I've only done basic testing, but it worked perfectly.
There's loads of other functionality which I haven't had chance to look at.
I had the test \ demo \ trial installed and processing CDR's in under an hour and it's been rock-stable since.
Best bet is to download the trial and go for it; the initial trial license is only 7 days I think, but they've extended mine no questions asked.
Good luck,
Lee

Any thoughts?

Hey,
If it helps, I've just been trialling Variphy for CDR reporting more than anything else, but the phone remote feature works OK. I've only done basic testing but had no problems (CUCM 9.1x).
It's not that expensive - licensed by device I think - their sales team got in touch after I downloaded the trial version then talked me through the base config etc. The software will prepare a cluster report which you send to them and they'll give you indicative $USD pricing.
Hope that helps!

Any chance you can give a review of the functionality (CDR, remote control, etc.)? Haven't found anything online although their product does sound promising.
