Convert CIMC back to UCSM

CatatonicBug

I have a 3-node Hyperflex cluster, and in my ignorance, I have converted one of the nodes to standalone mode. It now will not make itself visible to the Fabric Interconnects to join the cluster I have rebuilt. I have gone into CIMC and reset it to factory defaults, both via the web GUI and the KVM, but it just stays in CIMC mode instead of switching to UCSM mode. How do I get it to go back to UCSM mode so I can connect it to my cluster?

General steps to go from standalone, back to UCSM integration:

  • disconnect 1gb mgmt connection to LOM ports or dedicated CIMC connection
  • only 10/25/40 Gb VIC card connection to Each FI (if 4 port card, use port 1 to A and port 3 to B, leave ports 2 and 4 open)
  • Via F8 CIMC config option at POST time (via crash cart or physical KVM), reset CIMC to factory defaults.

Should see server start to discover after this.

Couple of other things to try if the above steps don't work:

  • Power drain server
  • Unconfigure the FI ports, and then reconfigure as 'server' ports.

If you don't see server show up in equipment view and start to discover, my need to open a case with TAC.

Do the FI ports connected to this server show connected?

Are these 10, 25, or 40Gb?
