when upgrade hyperflex from version 5.0 to 5.5 and ESXi from version 7.u3 to 8.u4 ,Does the VIB issue always  occur during the upgrade?

The VIB issue is agnostic to Hyperflex. It is occurring because you are upgrading from ESXi 7 to ESXi8. ESXi 8 does not use the same VIBs as ESXi7.

Due to this, the ESXi 8 installer finds VIBs that are not compatible with it and causes the error. The expectation is that you will encounter this issue on each host you upgrade from 7 to 8.

what step i should do to avoid this issue ?

I think a lot of ESXi 7.x > 8.x upgrades fail due to prior/older (7.0u1>8.0u3) or "version forward" (7.0u3>8.0u1) issues.

ESXi 7.0u3 to ESXi 8.0u3 should be okay.

Best method/safest method is to:

  1. upgrade to latest HX 5.0, 5.0(2g) (and accompanying ESXi version from software.cisco.com/download).
  2. upgrade to HX 5.5(2b) (and accompanying ESXi version from software.cisco.com/download).
