Intersight ICO Workflow- iSCSI boot parameters question

Hello community,

I am attempting to create a custom, complex workflow in Intersight that derives, assigns, and deploys a server profile; creates a storage host entry and boot volume using the new Moid and IQN, then installs an OS to the server.

However, when using a Cisco-Custom ISO for the OS image, documentation says an SCU image is required. The SCU image parameters for remote installation disk requires the 'VNIC MAC address' prior to workflow execution. Unfortunately, that parameter is obfuscated behind the SCU image selection and cannot be mapped as part of a task output inside the workflow. Additionally, I have a server kickstarter config file that specifies install on a remote disk.

My questions:

  • Can I set the VNIC MAC address parameter to a variable before execution and map to the variable prior to the OS install step?
  • If so, what is the syntax, i.e. {{ global.workflow.variable.macAddress }}?
  • Is the SCU image actually required? There is no red asterisk in the console when selecting the image.
  • Since iSCSI boot is configured for our server profile template, if I specify the remote install in my kickstarter profile, is it required in the SCU parameters?
  • Am I doing this all wrong and should avoid creating complex workflows, keeping them simpler and manually running one task at a time?

Any assistance would be helpful, even if I need to rethink the whole process. Thank you.
