I have 2 c3750Es running routing sharing a common vlan [vlan71]. Connected trunk interface set to MTU 9000. When I ping from one to another using extended ping; size 1501; source IP and df-bit set it times out [but 1500 works]. What am I missing?

Jens - In a lab setup [3750x to 3850 - didn't have access to any 3750Es!] with system and Routing MTUs all above 1500 [and showing on the physical and virtual interfaces] and routing turned off on both I still can't ping more than 1500B with df-set....
I believe it "should" be the system [not routing] mtu in this case - although I have routing enabled the ping is in the same vlan [i.e. an arp for a Mac rather than sent to the gateway!] so "should not" be affected by the routing MTU..] ..but somet...
[reply to BB and David] version 15.2(4)E10 .. afaik you can't adjust the MTU on a Vlan Interface and the system mtu is set - but maybe it won't ping above system MTU. I'm going to change that to 1998 to see if that makes a difference. [Ah-ha moment...
