So I was able to figure out TFTP, but the file I downloaded is in the .tar format and the controller doesn't seem to like that format. What format should the new firmware code be in? Doug

Thank you for the details explanation. I have been able to confirm that my current mobility express controller is running 8.5.135.0. I have no idea what the new 3802e is running. I have done a factory resent on it. but don't know what what firmware level it is running. Attached is a screen shot of console. I have been able to download 8.10.105, but haven't applied it yet. Is there a set by step procedure you can point me to, to use a TFTP server to upload 8.10.105 to both the controller and the new 3802e ?

I can log into the controller and see all 4 access points on my network, including the new 3802e. However, the new one isn't even getting an IP address so I can't connect to it to console into it. Doug

I have 3 Cisco AP's 2 3800 and 1 2800 on my wireless network, all running mobility express. The 2800 is acting as the primary controller. I am attempting to add a 3802e, I have it connected via PoE to my cisco switch. When I unboxed it, I immediately did a factory reset to clear it out to its factory reset. It powered up just fine, and I see if via the console GUI, under Access Point Administration. However, currently it is listed as having CAPWAP, not ME. The LED has been blinking blue for the past 2 hours indicating "software update in progress" When I try and select the Access point in the console and then select "Covert to ME" I get the following error, "Mode conversion is not applicable for selected AP's" Please advise on how to get this converted to ME and join my network. Haydn, Unfortunately, you are correct. I am BEYOND dissapointed in Cisco to find this information out. To gain BASIC MULTI AP ADD CAPABILITY I HAVE TO HAVE AN ACTIVE CISCO SUPPORT CONTRACT!!!!!! THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!!!!!!! If I would have know this, I would have made other buying decisions prior to investing so much in Cisco AP's. Luckily, I got in contact with an amazing Cisco Support rep, who also agreed that this was egregious and provided me the updated firmware to 8.5. Needless to say I am going to cling to this code for dear life. Dear Cisco,
If your listening, and your CARE about about the SMB community.............this has to change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We can't afford to carry costly Cisco support contracts just to ADD ANOTHER AP TO OUR NETWORK......
If this continues, this will be the LAST Cisco AP I buy...............Hello Ubiquiti !!!!

Is it possible to download AP images WITHOUT a Cisco support contract? I just bought my 2802i, its still under waranty, but it seems in order to download the firmware that has the list of AP images to give me the functionality to be able to join other AP's to my network, I have to have a Cisco Support Contract.
Please advise.....

So after doing more investigating, I see that the 1815i CAN be a subordinate Access Point to the 2802i, per the chart on page 3 of the Mobility Express Deployment Guide.
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/8-6/b_cisco_mobility_express_8_6.pdf
Can someone please confirm this is accurate....
THanks

Haydn,
THANK YOU SO MUCH for the information. I think you may have solved my problem. I was trying to add the 1815i as a subordinate AP, but I see that I won't be able to do that. Is there a list of subordinate AP's that I can add to my 2802i? Also, I was able to connect via browser to my 2802i. I tried another computer that wasn't as locked down as my main one, and I was able to connect. Thanks

So I went with Mobility Express so I wouldn't have to buy a Wireless LAN Controller to control my AP's
I was under the impression I could manage all my Cisco AP's running Mobility Express via browser configuration.
Is there not the ability to manage and add AP's to my network without having a dedicated Wireless Lan Controller?

Am I supposed to connect to the master AP via a browser through the mgmt IP or the physical IP? And am I supposed to have Ethernet connected to the mgmt port on the 2802i?

I have a 2802i-B-K9 running mobility Express up and running just fine.
I am not trying to expand my coverage by adding a 1815i-B-K9 to a part of the office that has low coverage.
I can connect to the 2802i via the moble app, but I can't connect via a browser. The 2802i is being powered via PoE+ switch via the POE switch. The mgmt port on the 2802i is not connected to the PoE+ switch.
Please advise how I can add the 1815i to my network.
Thanks
