Choppy Dial Tone from Remote End

Dear NetPros,

We have a scenario where we have a head office route connected to two routers from two different brances each. Lets say headoffice route = A, branch office router 1 = B and branch office router 2 = C. Now we are trying to call from B to C via A and we have configured the routers B and C in such a way that the dial tone comes from the router C i.e. the Remote End Router. We have configured RSVP Commands on all the three routers so that only specific bandwidth is allocated for voice call traffic and the rest is allocated for data traffic. Everything is ok except that we are receiving a choppy dial-tone from the remote end during peak bandwidth utilization whereas when we remove the RSVP Commands from all the three routers it works fine and the dial-tone is quite clear.

Also when we try to change any codec except g729r8 on the originating gateway we cannot receive the dial-tone from the remote end. We can only receive dial-tone when the codec has been configured for g729r8 as the preference 1 codec in voice class on the originating gateway i.e. B.

Could someone suggest why are we receiving choppy dial-tone and why we are unable to change the codec to any other codec besides g729r8? Any help in this area would be highly appreciated.

Cheers

There are cases where no dial tone is heard. That is due to hardware/DSP problems or due to some bugs. But not sure if its the same here. Check for more information on:
