A client just called me, stating that when they call inter-office, the names that show up on their display are not consistent. So, I went on site to try to help and found that sometimes, the correct name of who they're calling shows up ( the User Name of the Extension number), sometimes, just the extension number shows, and sometimes the WRONG (old) name shows up. I figured out that the OLD name was showing due to a Personal Directory entry - that was overriding all other items - and - matching the extension number to the name in their personal directory. Once I deleted / corrected the Personal Directory entry, that also corrected the name that displayed...when it did.
The next situation was a little stranger...I'm used to using the "#" key to make the phone dial when I'm done entering digits...when doing this - the extensions, without the Personal Directory entries previously mentioned, only show the NUMBER of the extension I'm dialing. However, if I used the "dial" soft key below the display (these are all SPA-504G's, v7.5.5 FW) - then the NAME of the Extension, as programmed into the destination extension's registration information, is what is displayed. I would like that that name ALWAYS display, regardless of dial method - but - I cannot seem to figure out how that option is set. Once caveat - if I select an intercom line FIRST (hit a line key, then dial the extension) - regardless of the "dial" or "#" key (or timeout, if set / available) - I ALWAYS just get the extension number in the display.
We are connected to a hosted provider, who's back-end PBX is Asterisk based (not sure exactly what flavor / version).
Does anyone have any ideas how to make this a little more consistent?
Thanks!
David
