UC540 - Standard PSTN and SIP Questions

(Please excuse my ignorance...)

I have a customer with a brand new UC540W-BRI & VIC2-2FXO (SPA525G phones) purchased from someone who is no longer in the picture...  They currently have 2 POTS lines & DSL (10mb/786K) from their local telco.  They would like to add 4-5 additional lines.

Can these additional lines be provided through a SIP trunk provider?  And what's the physical connection needed?  Or does it just use the incoming DSL line?

Or am I not even asking the right questions??

This system was just unboxed and I've been asked to configure it.

Thanks.

Gary

Hi Gary,

Yes you can configure a SIP trunk to function on this system, you just need an ITSP provider, they can then allow for the 4 incoming connections to the UC-500 over the SIP trunk, looking at the DSL connection you have enough upstream bandwidth to cater for 4 simultaneous calls, but this might be effected with data moving across the link at the same time, unless you have end-to-end QoS enabled (Must be done at your and and the ISP needs to apply it on the DSL link).

Other than that I why wouldn't you use all the capacity on the system? You have a BRI card which is ISDN and you have FXO which is PSTN, or is this capacity not enough???

It would appear you have more than one option available to you

Cheers,

David.
