Hello,
The differences are these...
DES: Data Encryption Standard, applies a 56-bit key to every 64 bits of data..Is used as an encrytion standard...was developed in 1977 by IBM..DES provides 72 quadrillion possbile keys...It is not used as often today....
3DES: Triple DES, performs three encrytion operations on data, where DES itself did only one.
3DES produces an aggregate 168-bit encrytion algorithm.
