Hello,
Has anyone tried an alternative client to Cisco Anyconnect for users on Windows 8.1
I have been able to get my Cisco Anyconnect working ok for windows 7 but am limited to 2 peers unless I buy a license. However my Cisco ASA firewall supports up to 750 VPN peers (but not cisco any connect)
I am keen to move the users away from the current cisco VPN client they are using but don't really want to start buying licenses just so they can start using anyconnect.
I am just wondering is their an alternative client to replace the cisco vpn client that I could trial that would also be suitable for Windows 8.1
regards,
Kevin

Kevin,
What you are looking for is a client that still supports the older ipSec protocol that was used before the new VPN client. All the new stuff is geared toward SSL connectivity and the reason for the needed additional licenses. The SSL also gives you the ability to have connectivity without a client through a web page. I have reduced the number of users with a VPN client even installed because of this. There is the ability to configure the ASA to support the older ipSec connectivity. At least that is an option on the ASA that I am running.
Just as an FYI I am supporting about 300 remote users with only 50 SSL licenses as they are not all connected at the same time.

You don't have to use an AnyConnect Premium license. AnyConnect Essentials will do just fine for basic remote access SSL VPN.
FYI these are being migrated to a new scheme and referred to as "Plus" and "Apex" client licenses.

I only have around 20 clients who connect to our datacentre to support applications and I don't really want to spend more money on an Anyconnect Premium License if I don't need to.
I am using a Cisco 5520 but will be moving to a Cisco 5585 in two months time - I have ordered two of these for two sites.
So how do I test the AnyConnect Essentials I.e. how do I activate it just so I can try it out and what advantage is there of going to Premium?
thanks
Kevin
