AnyConnect 3.1 - Gina Registry Issue

Hi Everyone,

We're having an issue when trying to install the Start Before Login feature on some of our clients and I was hoping someone else had seen the same problem before. The rest of the client package installs ok and even the start before login msi runs and places the vpngina.dll file in the correct place, but on some computers its not modifiying the registry to tell the computer to start using it. On a seemingly random set of computers, the registry value

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\GinaDLL is not being updated to the relevant VPNGINA.DLL string as per the working computers. In fact it would appear that this registry value is hidden if it is in the default state that Windows uses.

The clients in question are Windows XP SP3 and they all use the same standard build, with the AnyConnect client being pushed to them via SCCM. As mentioned this seems to work on about half of the computers, but not on others. When trying to manually modify the registry value, we receive an error that we don't have permissions to change it and when trying to modify the permissions on the Winlogon key, we again get a message that it couldn't be completed on some values.

We have even tried getting SCCM to change this registry value using the SYSTEM account, but again it was rejected by Windows because of permissions.

Does anyone have any idea on why this registry setting isn't consistantly being set by the start before logon msi or how we could potentially update this value using another method ?

We are using version 3.1.02026 of the AnyConnect client.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks
