Cannot fully uninstall VPN client/DNE (version 3.6.4a)

I have a remote user who has local administrator rights on Windows XP Pro. We tried to uninstall the VPN client version 3.6.4a, but the install always failed, saying error cannot unload deterministic network enhancer.

I tried to follow a manual uninstall document, which pointed to unbinding DNE from the network interface, and deleting files and registry keys, but again, when we try to remove the DNE keys in the registry, it says error delete failed.

A newer version of the client will not install over this since it still detects an older installation, and says to remove that first.

When I look at hidden items in Device Manager, it shows the DNE bound to adapters, but trying to uninstall these also gives an "error cannot remove" message.

So the bottom line is all of these functions are failing because DNE will not unload. There was a system file called dne2000.sys (or something like that) that was deleted, but apparently something is still loading.

Any suggestions? TIA

Hi Anthony,

I've been experiencing the same problem for weeks already. Have you figured out how to solve this problem? I can't install, repair or unistall the vpn client, due to a failure in "Removing Plug-in" by the Network Deterministic Enhancer. UGH!

thanks

I had this same problem and was finally able to uninstall the Cisco client by booting my XP box in to "Safe mode" and logging in as a local administrator. Good luck, let me know if this works for you.

I also have this exact same problem. DNE is preventing the program from being uninstalled or reinstalled.

It was suggested to me to run:

"dneinst.exe -fixup"

The executable should be located in program files\common files\deterministic networks.

The problem machine is not local to me, so I have not gotten a chance to try it.

I was able to fully uninstall using the proceedures outline in this thread:

http://forum.cisco.com/eforum/servlet/NetProf?page=netprof&CommCmd=MB%3Fcmd%3Ddisplay_location%26location%3D.1dd5cf71

Hope this helps.
