Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client disconnects on OSX "Login Window"

I am using Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client version 3.1.10010 to connect to a computer network from my OSX 10.9.5 desktop computer. After I log in, the VPN connection stays active. If, however I go to the "User Login Window" on the Mac (i.e., if I lock the screen), and go back in, the VPN has been disconnected. How do I ensure that the VPN stays active and, say file transfers continue if I step out for a while.

I can't find a way to configure it since there are only 4 options in Preferences:

Start VPN when AnyConnect is started

Minimize AnyConnect on VPN connect

Allow local (LAN) access when using VPN

Block connections to untrusted servers

I have a similar problem using 4.1.04011 though it does connect but disconnects after 5-10 minutes.
