Im trying to console into a pix 501 with a usb to serial adapter cable in windows 7. I have tried hyperterminal, securecrt, and teraterm but i just get to a blinking cursor and no further. is there something im missing?

- Download Putty.exe(Its the best )
Got to device manager in Windows and find what COM port the USB device is using (mine tends to favor either COM5 or COM6)
- Open Putty.exe
- Select the Serial radio button
- Type in COMx (x being the number)
- Click connect
Hope that fixes the issue

Ya, I have tried putty too, and It just does nothing. When I
select the serial button and put in the correct COMx number and hit open it just doesnt do anything

By the way I have tried this on a windows 7 laptop and a windows 7 desktop same issue. Tried on a windows xp works fine

I got this working finally, strangely enough the power cord was bad. Thanks for your suggestion
