Dynamic Tunnel not using Base Group in VPN 3005

I have a non-Cisco gateway using a dynamic IP address trying to connect the a VPN 3005. I have tested it to a PIX and it works. But when it attempts to connect to the 3005 the log says

No Group found matching 10.1.1.1 for Pre-shared key peer 10.1.1.1

That tells me it is not even trying to use the base group - any ideas???

it should work, why its not trying to authenticate against BASE_GROUP, double check your config.

I had to use main mode - and then it worked.
