IPSec Speed

Hi,

We have 2 office connected together by RVS4000 Routers with an IPSec.

The current settings are 3DES/SHA-1 for the Tunnel.

We have a Fiber 10Mb/s connection on each end. When we transfer from one office to another using the Ipsec we have a top speed of about 115k. Any way to increase the speed between the 2 routers using the IPsec ?

THanks

I do know that different algorithms provide different performance. For instance, AES provides more throughput on a PIX506e over 3DES.

From http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/vpndevc/ps5708/ps5709/ps2030/ps4336/product_data_sheet09186a0080091b13.html

Performance Summary

• Cleartext throughput: Up to 100 Mbps
• Concurrent connections: 25,000
• 56-bit DES IPSec VPN throughput: Up to 20 Mbps
• 168-bit 3DES IPSec VPN throughput: Up to 16 Mbps
• 128-bit AES IPSec VPN throughput: Up to 30 Mbps
• 256-bit AES IPSec VPN throughput: Up to 25 Mbps

I do not see a similar data sheet for the rvs4000, but I did find a review on google that bashes the performance of this device.

Directly related to IPSec, this is the best information I could dig up for your particular issue.

Goodluck!
