Hii,
Some of my remote users dial into my Cisco 3640 router using ISDN TA. One of my application uses netbios name like mapping using command \\server\share folder. But after connecting into BRI they are unable to do so.
Help me pls. I have tried entering netbios nbf command but its not available in my router although I have 12.2 IOS.

Hi,
Do your remote users use DHCP?
Have you got a local WINS server with the NBT name for your server?
Can you supply the WINS server's IP address to your clients via DHCP?
or if not get them to use a static mapping in the LMHOSTS file on their hosts?

Hii,
Thanks for quick reply. I think I have put my question little bit wrong.
Remote users dial into 3640 with a Pre Defined IP Address in their Dial-UP connection->TCP/IP Settings option. I want that when they do :
Run->Find->Computer, they should be able to find the computer of my network i.e, my server. Although they are able to ping the server very well.

Anis,
You need Service Provider, or Enterprise image for nbf support.

I was about to describe all three possible ways to set this up, but the post would probably be too long ;). In short: I don't beleive you need or want Enterprise Services. But to choose a best solution it would be great to know what OS your server and clients are running and if you can install or have someone install aditional services on your server.

Clients r having Win98 and Server is Win2000, but client machines r not able to find Win98 machines also on the remote network.

In this case it would be best to use WINS:
1. Install WINS server on your Windows 2000 Server
2. Set the server's network connection to use WINS:
2.1 Open Control Panel -> Network
2.2 Select Properties on Local Area Connection
2.3 Select Properties on TCP-IP
2.4 Click on Advanced then select WINS
2.5 Enter the server's address as WINS server
3. Set the Windows 98 Dial-Up network connection to use the server as WINS server
Hope this helps.

Hi Anis.
You need to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP on your server, however it is enabled by default. Windows 98 always talks NetBIOS over TCP/IP, so there's no way to enable or disable it.
You don't want NetBEUI on clients, it is not a routable protocol, so it would be best to uninstall it.
Can you send the output of "ipconfig /all" on the server and settings of dial-up connection on clients?
If you look in WINS management console (it's in Administrative Tools) do you see any active registrations?

by default broadcasts are disabled over an isdn call. to enable broadcasts use the keyword broadcast in your dialer map statement ie:
dialer map ip 1.1.1.1 name cisco3640 broadcast 18889991111
if you already have that enabled can i see a sho run for your bri int

Dear b.scherer,
Thanx for ur reply. Pls tell me is the IP 1.1.1.1 has to be give or u have just given the example. Second thing which phone no. I have to enter in place of 18889991111 as my clients are different and all r having different Ph. No. and they are using ISDN TA in Win 98 and not any Router.

Anis,
what do your current dialer map statements look like in your router? Yes 1.1.1.1 and the phone number i provided were just examples, replace them with your ip's and phone numbers.

I replaced the IP Add and Ph. No. but the problem is still same even now I am unable to ping from the client and also I am unable to ping the client from my router.
