PIX-to-PIX VPN / ICMP problem

Hi

We have a VPN between a PIX 515 and a PIX 506. From the inside network of PIX 506 we can ping the inside interface of PIX 515 and other hosts on the inisde network of PIX 515.

From the inside network of PIX 515 we can ping inside hosts of the PIX 506 but not the inside interface of PIX 506. The inside interface of 506 can be pinged from the PIX 506 itself and from the inside network.

The strange thing is that the ping gets through the tunnel to the 506 and the 506 sends then an ARP request out its interface (ARP request sent from 10.0.15.1 looking for MAC address of 10.0.15.1 ???). When we make a static and permanent ARP entry in the 506 config, then the 506 sends an echo request out it's inside interface.

We already tested it with an other PIX 501 and an other release (6.2.2 instead of 6.3.3) with the same result ... any ideas?

To be able to ping/telnet/ssh/etc to the inside interface of any PIX over a VPN tunnel you need the following command:

management-access inside

You'll probably find your 515 has this command whereas the 506 doesn't.

You're right, that was the difference between the two configs and now it works.
