I'm trying to get Windows Messenger 5.0 or 5.1 working through an IPSec VPN from Cisco Secure client to a PIX, then to MS Live Communication Server using the SIP protocol. Sometimes it works, usually it doesn't. Sometimes I can log in but the client can not initiate the messenger connection. It can reply though. Usually it just won't log in. Seems to me something intermittent with the PIX not passing the SIP traffic or not performing "fixup sip" correctly. Does anyone have this working?

MSN Instant Messenger also known as Windows Messenger in Windows XP will not work through a NAT'd device. Thus, as it is designed now I guess will MSN IM will not work through VPN tunnels as it is currently designed.

Actually, I opened a TAC case on this problem - the engineer said this:
"I found out that the sip fixup protocol only supported Instant Messaging (IM) Chat feature on Windows XP using Windows Messenger RTC Client version 4.7.0105.
As a workaround on a previous situation the sip fixup was disabled and it worked. " -- Luis, Cisco TAC
Thanks, Luis, this solved my problem.
