Help me figure something out? I have a whitepaper in front of me, that shows out to do outbound PPP dial from a modem on the AUX 0 port. My requirement, is that I have 2 people on my network who need PPP dial-in, so I just want to put a single modem on the router for this. I'm upgrading this router from a 3620, to a 3825, and I'd rather not put that old 33.6K 8-port modem card (NM module) I saw another whitepaper that shows how to do dialin on a modem on AUX 0, but it's only for EXEC commands to the router. The same paper said, "NOTE: The AUX line port does not run PPP, so you cannot use Windows DialUp Networking for this connection...

Question: The AUX port is capable of PPP outbound, but not PPP inbound? Again, my requirement is PPP dial-in, but I'd prefer not to need to use my old NM.

Alex, the whitepaper is absolutely incorrect. If its on cisco.com, please let me know the URL and I ll make sure it gets fixed. Aux port is just like any other async port/interface. You can do both inbound and outboud PPP on it. Please see the following documents which confirm what I stated above :

I'll send you the URL of the note I found, indicating the AUX port did not run PPP, when I get into work Tuesday morning, after the holiday.

Zahmed;
the document that mentions that the AUX port doesn't do PPP, is, "Configuring a Modem on the Aux Port for EXEC Dialin Connectivity" Document ID: 10318.

Alex,
I agree. This note is misleading :
Note: The AUX port line does not run PPP.
I am working on getting this document assigned to me so that I can correct this and republish back on CCO. It might take a couple of weeks or so.
Thanx and Regards,
